An Aquarium is a place where fish swim around on their own even as they all share in the same ecosystem. Aleksandra Zharkova, a Computer Science major with a Journalism concentration, recalled a film in which people in her native Russia called their Communist-issued apartments, where multi- generations of one family were assigned to live, “aquariums.” As she and co-designer Robert Polansky, a Communication major with a Journalism concentration, designed the webzine, “aquarium” became the metaphor for the many different intertwined issues under discussion in this webzine, issues reflecting the ways in which people act as individuals but ultimately must live together on the same planet. The articles on politics, pop culture, and everyday student issues stand on their own but are connected like fish in an Aquarium, as are we.
Check out the articles on politics and join the forum discussions. We plan to add new commentary soon.
