To be taught TBA

Meetings: TBA
Office Hours: TBA

Course Objectives: To learn the basic concepts and terminology involved in the structural investigation of human language and to develop basic analytical skills in the areas of morphology, phonology, syntax, variation, acquisition, and pragmatics.

Textbook: TBA

Tests: Quizzes cover material related to a specific topic. Exams cover everything. All work on these must be individual without the help of materials such as notes or the book. I tend to write tests with at least a couple very difficult questions, but I also always grade them on a curve. Ask if you have questions about grades.

Workshops: You will work in small groups (2-3 students, initially assigned) on an analytical problem in each workshop. Some preliminary activities will be provided to each student on a handout in the previous class. On workshop day, each group will get a linguistic problem to solve together over the next 50 minutes. Each group will turn in a solution to the instructor at the end of class. All present members of a group will get the same grade on the collective solution.
